Another Blues for Summertime…in B

Woke up this morning

a bee was on my nose.

It must have got in through the window

though the curtains they were closed

I lay there starin’ cross eyed

so afraid I might be stung

but that bee it stared right back at me

and buzzed this little song.

    (The song went…)

Honey child get out of bed

and greet the morning sun,

there’s roads that’s needin walkin

yeh there’s wandrin to be done

I'm already looking to put a tune to this.

Here are some poems written over Christmas 2009 and New Year 2010 and the big snowfall that followed, when Glasgow was filled with sledges and snowmen and the Kelovin froze solid for the first time in many years

Little Jenny Wren

Jenny wren, Jenny wren
oh how you sing,
Jenny wren, Jenny wren
I see your ring
Jenny wren, Jenny wren fly
free in the sky
Jenny wren, jenny wren
goodbye goodbye.

My Dream Christmas

I was dreaming
of a white christmas.
And guess what!

Sunset
Two terns
Flying low
Skimming the water.

Southbound
Hawk, blackbird
Slowing down
Preparing to land.

Big Freeze on The Kelvin

I can't believe
 the river, frozen,
solid as make believe
and patterned too
with fox and duck prints
and daredevil dog prints;
they've been dancing all over,
an animal bird dance
of hops skips and scratches
on a snow sheet dance floor,
and all rolled out
smooth, like Christmas paper.

Melvin Writes Rude Words

I have a friend called Melvin
who fell through the ice on the Kelvin.
He was writing rude words
Yes I know it's absurd
Now he's shrunken and frozen and elvin.
